A bit about me…

I’m Lauren, and I live in the UK with my cat (Katie!). I work in the research industry doing business development. How random you might be thinking, why have you started this community?! Well, I’ve always been a car enthusiast! My earliest memories are of me sitting in our (very terracotta) living room, playing with toy cars. My favorite one was a black Porsche, which used to zoom around the room and park up outside the 'school' and 'office' several times a day. I also had a pretty cool (I use that term loosely) ferry that used to board all of the cars, blow out smoke, and sail to the dock (the next corner of the rug).

As I got a bit older, I graduated to playing video games (GTA Liberty City FTW). Again, my favorite thing to do was drive around, buy cars, and do the school run (like I said, I was hella cool). It's strange what you remember - as like most of us I've sadly forgotten about 90% of my childhood, but these memories remain, as do my love for cars!

I would never say that I'm any kind of expert, but I know the basics; car maintenance, buying cars, tyres and parts, a bit about modifications, and I have a weird ability to remember useless facts about certain types of car. But I think the thing that has helped me in this field, is just doing it myself. Sure, I've relied on my dad and partners in the past, but I always took an interest and tried to learn for myself as I went along. Now, the internet is my best friend!

I started this site to help others (anyone, but especially women) who might not feel so confident. There’s been multiple occasions when I’ve felt intimidated going to a garage, and I have been lied to and ripped off before! I've also had countless female friends get worried when taking cars to garages, buying cars, and still be reliant on partners or male friends. There's nothing wrong with that, but being able to do sh*t by yourself, to stand up to sexism, and not have to rely on others is empowering! And we can all help each other to achieve a bit more independence every day 😊
